How to Make Laser-cut Loaves and Fishes for Godly Play

Share

About a year ago I make a bunch of loaves and fishes for a Godly Play story at the church. I made them out of 3mm door hanger plywood that I picked up at the local craft store using a CO2 laser with settings of P100/S100 for etching and P100/S15 for cutting. Godly Play is a way of teaching Bible stories to children which uses a lot of wooden parts, and the loaves and fishes were to teach about the miracle in the Bible where Jesus feeds 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish.

I went back again this month to make more of the same fist. This time I used Esrich Basswood Sheets 12″ x 12″ x 1/8″ from Amazon. I found this material to be high quality and flatter than the door hangers. I used P100/S100 for etching and P100/S15 for cutting. I fit 144 fish onto a single sheet, which combined with the others ended up covering the 153 fish mentioned in the story. It took about 1 hour and 15 minutes to etch and cut the whole sheet.
